The much-anticipated Malamparambu-Mananchira four-lane road will be officially inaugurated on  March 9, 2026 promising smoother traffic flow and faster commutes for thousands of daily commuters. Stretching from the bustling Malamparambu area to the iconic Mananchira Square, this 4-km stretch has long been a bottleneck amid the city’s growing traffic. Narrow lanes and heavy congestion turned routine trips into frustrating ordeals, especially during peak hours and festival seasons. The new four-lane design, complete with widened carriageways, pedestrian pathways, and improved drainage, addresses these pain points head-on.

  • Traffic Relief: Expect 30-40% faster travel times between key spots like SM Street, Mananchira, and Mavoor Road.
  • Safety Upgrades: LED streetlights, marked crossings, and roundabouts to cut accidents.
  • Economic Ripple: Easier access for shops, eateries, and heritage sites around Mananchira, boosting local businesses.

This project, part of Kozhikode Corporation’s smart city initiatives, was greenlit in 2024 with a budget of ₹45 crore. Delays due to monsoon works pushed the launch, but it’s now ready to transform daily life.

Inauguration Highlights

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is slated to virtually inaugurate the road at 10 AM on March 9 from Thiruvananthapuram, with local MLA K.M. Shaji and Mayor Beena Philip presiding over ground events at Mananchira. Expect cultural performances, including traditional oppana and margamkali, alongside ribbon-cutting and a ceremonial drive.

Traffic diversions will be in place from 8 AM—NH bypass users, note the temporary closure near Malamparambu junction. Live updates on Kozhikode Corporation’s social media and local channels like Mathrubhumi news.
