The scenic village of Iringal, tucked away near Vadakara in Kozhikode, is once again transforming into a vibrant global stage for the 13th Sargaalaya International Arts & Crafts Festival (SIACF). Running from December 23, 2025, to January 11, 2026, this 20-day extravaganza is more than just an exhibition; it is a profound celebration of human creativity. Managed by the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) for Kerala Tourism, the festival has grown into one of India’s premier cultural events, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to witness the magic of handmade heritage.
Masterpieces from Across Borders
This year’s edition is truly international, hosting over 200 master artisans from approximately 15 countries, including Iran, Egypt, Belarus, Taiwan, and Uganda. Alongside these international guests, craftsmen from nearly every Indian state bring their regional legacies to life. Visitors have the rare opportunity to browse over 100 stalls featuring authentic, high-quality products, many of which are created by National Award winners and Shilpaguru awardees. Whether it is intricate wood carvings, delicate handlooms, or earthy terracotta, the sheer variety of crafts on display offers a unique glimpse into the soul of different cultures.
New Attractions for the 2025 Season
The 2025-2026 festival introduces several exciting firsts that make it a must-visit. For the first time, a dedicated Flower Show and a comprehensive Tourism Expo have been added to the itinerary. Fashion enthusiasts can look forward to a unique Handloom Fashion Show, which aims to bridge the gap between traditional weaving and modern style. Additionally, a Tourism Talk Show scheduled for January 3rd will bring together industry experts to discuss the future of cultural tourism, making the festival a hub for both commerce and conversation.
Immersive Experiences and Entertainment
Beyond the shopping, Sargaalaya is designed as an immersive experience for the whole family. The “Craft Theme Arenas” offer live demonstrations where you can watch raw materials like bamboo, clay, or coir transform into works of art. As evening falls, the atmosphere shifts with daily cultural performances on a floating stage. Families can enjoy the Underwater Tunnel Aquarium, amusement rides, and the serene beauty of the Moorad River with pedal or motor boating. To complete the journey, a sprawling food festival serves up traditional Kerala delicacies and Malabar specialties, ensuring that your taste buds are as inspired as your eyes.
Practical Information for Visitors
If you’re planning a trip, the festival gates are generally open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with an entry fee of around ₹100. The most magical time to visit is in the late afternoon, allowing you to appreciate the intricate details of the crafts in daylight before staying for the evening lights and music. Located easily via the Iringal Railway Station or a short drive from Kozhikode and Kannur, Sargaalaya offers a perfect winter escape for anyone looking to support local artisans and experience the heartbeat of global craftsmanship.
