Kozhikode Railway Station has launched Kerala’s pioneering e-bike rental service, offering eco-friendly last-mile connectivity for passengers. This facility, introduced by the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway, promotes zero-emission travel amid rising station footfall. The service debuted on December 10, 2025, near Platform 4, inaugurated by Station Manager C.K. Harish. Operated by Fj Business Innovatives from Perinthalmanna, it holds the state’s first e-bike rental license for compliant operations. Initially, eight of 30 electric scooters are available 24/7, with fully charged bikes covering 100-130 km per charge.
Rental Rates and Requirements
Rentals start at ₹50 per hour, ₹500 for 12 hours, or ₹750 for 24 hours, plus a ₹1,000 refundable deposit. Users need an original Aadhaar card and a driving license valid for at least two years. Each bike includes one helmet (extras at ₹50), full insurance, and chargers for full-day rentals; en-route charging costs extra borne by the renter.
Key Benefits
E-bikes ease city mobility for tourists exploring Kozhikode’s beaches and markets, students, professionals, and short-trip commuters from nearby towns. They cut reliance on autos/taxis, lower costs and time, and support urban sustainability with nationwide usability. In accidents, insurance covers repairs while daily fees apply during claims.
Usage Tips
Park and return bikes at the Platform 4 shed; follow traffic rules to avoid penalties. Ideal for day visitors, the service follows railway-approved fares only. Southern Railway’s social media highlights its role in greener Kerala travel.
